Application Fee Waiver

Columbia offers a fee waiver to any student who needs it, as well as to additional categories of students who may face barriers in their journey to college. Please note that in addition to the Columbia-specific fee waiver, Undergraduate Admissions also accepts the Common Application and Coalition Application on Scoir fee waivers.

Students who qualify for the Columbia-specific fee waiver may note that they qualify on their application without any additional documentation or verification. Please see our Application Fees and Fee Waivers page for detailed instructions. However, if you would like to confirm your eligibility for a fee waiver before applying, or if you would like to receive an email receipt of your request, you may also use this form to check your eligibility.

Fee waivers are only available to students planning on applying for financial aid.

Any of the below criteria qualify a student for a fee waiver from Columbia.

You feel the application fee presents a hardship

Your annual family income is below $66,000

You are eligible for a Pell Grant

You have received an ACT or SAT testing fee waiver

You are enrolled in federal Free and Reduced Price School Meals

Your family receives public assistance, like housing, food or childcare subsidies

Your annual family income is at or below the USDA Income Eligibility Guidelines

You live in federally subsidized public housing, a shelter or a foster home, or you are homeless

You are a ward of the state or an orphan

Your school fees are covered by a need-based scholarship

You are part of the first generation in your family to attend college

You attend a New York City public school

You are enrolled in a US federally recognized or state-recognized tribe

You are undocumented and live in the US

You work with a community-based organization that supports with college preparation, like Upward Bound, TRIO, A Better Chance, AVID, Jack Kent Cooke, Matriculate and others

You are a veteran of the US Armed Forces or are currently on active duty in the US military

You live in a FEMA Declared Disaster Area or international region impacted by natural disaster

You qualify for an application fee waiver from Columbia.

You may select that you qualify for a fee waiver in the Columbia-specific questions on either the Common Application, Coalition Application on Scoir or the Combined Plan application. Are you interested in Columbia as a first-year student?
First-year candidates are high school students who are interested in studying at Columbia College or Columbia Engineering for their undergraduate degrees. Students interested in the liberal arts with more than one year's break between high school and postsecondary study or students interested in the Dual BA Programs, including with Sciences Po, Trinity College Dublin or JTS, should consult the School of General Studies.

Which non-first-year program are you interested in?

Transfer candidates are currently enrolled undergraduate students with at least 24 credits (or equivalent) who are interested in earning only one undergraduate degree from either Columbia College or Columbia Engineering. High school students in dual-enrollment courses are not eligible for transfer admission. Full eligibility can be found on our Transfer Applicants page.

Combined Plan candidates are currently enrolled undergraduate students who are interested in obtaining two undergraduate degrees: one in the liberal arts from their current institution and one in engineering from Columbia Engineering. Candidates apply in their junior or senior years of undergraduate study.
